Changes in Store for the ABUThe American Baseball Union is pleased to announce some major changes that are in store for the league. These changes will go into effect for the 2009 Fall Season and will affect all of the teams in the league. 1. Elimination of the Elite Division: The Elite Division has been purchased by Colin McGrane and will now be called the Southern Nevada Baseball League (www.snblbaseball.com). The American Baseball Union will now be one league. 2. Creation of the Minors Division: The Minors division will serve as a place for players looking for more playing time and for free agent players who are not on a team in the main division. All free agents that are placed on a minor division team will become draft eligible and may not be picked up by a team in the main division. 3. Roster Limits: Teams may not have more than 17 players on their active roster; No "Elite Division" pitchers may pitch on an ABU team (list to be compiled); no team may have more than 4 players that currently play on an Elite Division team; no team may have more than a total of 4 ex-college/pro players on their roster; no team may have more than 2 ex-pro players on their roster. Other restrictions may be put in place. 4. League Structure: The main division will be one large division made up of ten teams. Each team will play each other twice (18 total games), and the top 6 teams will make the postseason. The postseason will be a single elimination format. 5. League Expansion/Contraction: All new teams will first need to be approved by a 3-man committee. When that approval is secured, the team must then earn a 7/10 vote from the current teams. Teams that problematic for the league may be removed from the league with a 7/10 vote. Other exciting changes are in store for the league, so tune in often for more updates.
